The
Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings State Historic Park
is located about 20 minutes from my home, near Gainesville. She was a
transplanted Floridian who wrote the Pulitzer Prize winning The Yearling,
as well as an account of her life in North Florida, called Cross Creek.
In 1983, a biopic was made about her life, called - naturally - Cross Creek.
Write what you know, write what you love was the moral of her story in the
movie. It's odd how simple a concept I have to keep reminding myself of when I
consider what to choose for a subject.
